FMCSA Announces Ban of Four ELDs

In a recent announcement on Tuesday, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) made known its decision to add four Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) to the agency’s “Revoked” list.

This move implies that truckers found to be using any of these devices henceforth will face citations.

The FMCSA has officially removed the following ELDs from its list of approved devices:

  1. ALL TRUCKERS ELD
  2. GOLDEN ELD
  3. PRIMELD
  4. SECURE ELD

According to the FMCSA, these ELDs failed to meet the minimum federal requirements set by the administration.

Carriers who have been utilizing any of the four revoked ELDs are urged to follow these steps:

  1. Cease using the non-compliant ELDs immediately and switch to either paper logs or logging software to record the required hours of service data.
  2. Before September 23, 2023, replace the revoked ELDs with a compliant ELD listed on the Registered Devices roster.

Carriers Should Stop Using These ELDs ASAP

The FMCSA is allowing carriers a grace period of 60 days to replace their non-compliant ELD devices.

After the stipulated date of September 23, 2023, motor carriers continuing to use any of the revoked devices mentioned above will be deemed to be operating without a valid ELD. Safety officials instructed by the FMCSA will be authorized to place such drivers out of service if they are found using any of the revoked devices on or after the specified date.

The agency strongly emphasizes and encourages motor carriers to promptly take the necessary actions as listed above. By doing so, they can avoid potential compliance issues if the identified deficiencies are not addressed on time.

This year, the FMCSA has already removed several other ELDs from its list of approved devices. Notable mentions include the All-Ways Track ELD, ONE PLUS ELD, ELD ONE, and Nationwide ELD.
