Survey Shows Drivers And Carriers Don’t Agree On Industry Issues

While issues like the economy and parking are shared issues, that’s where similarities end.

A recent American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) survey revealed what drivers feel are key issues in the field. It also gathered results from the rest of the industry players. Perhaps not surprisingly, not everyone agreed on the major issues.

Purpose of the Survey

Every year, ATRI surveys to find out what truckers and their fellow workers in the industry feel are the biggest problems within the field. This year’s findings were shared at the American Trucking Association meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.

Results were compiled into three lists: motor carrier respondents/industry stakeholders, drivers, and overall results. Motor carriers comprised 45% and industry stakeholders were 22.8% of those surveyed. This left drivers in the minority at 31.3%

Motor Carriers’ and Drivers’ Opinions Are Very Different

Two of the same issues appeared on each list, but the remaining eight didn’t align as neatly. Both parties surveyed claimed that the state of the economy and parking difficulties were top issues. However, they were not ranked in the same place. The study shows drivers ranked the economy at #3 and parking at #1, while the others ranked them at #1 and #7, respectively.
