$1.9 Million Worth of Cocaine Seized at a Texas Border Crossing
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently seized millions of dollars worth of cocaine from a semi truck hauling furniture at a Texas border crossing.
According to a CBP news release, the drug seizure took place on February 25th by the Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo, Texas.
Secondary Inspection Lead to Seizure
A CBP officer referred a 2010 Freightliner tractor trailer manifesting a commercial shipment of wooden sofas for secondary inspection. Officers used a canine as well as non-intrusive imaging equipment to inspect the vehicle.
Non-intrusive inspection technology (NII technology) refers to technical equipment and machines such as X-ray or gamma-ray imaging type equipment that allow the inspection of cargo without the need to open the means of transport and unload the cargo.
Millions in Cocaine Found
CBP officers found 145.54 pounds of alleged cocaine within the trailer. The street value of the seized drugs is $1,943,364, which CBP seized the drugs. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is currently investigating the case.
“Officers in the cargo environment interdicted and seized millions worth in alleged cocaine this weekend,” said Port Director Albert Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “CBP remains committed to its border security mission while effectively facilitating lawful trade and travel.”
