Major Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Blitz Taking Place This Week in Arizona

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) is conducting commercial vehicle enforcement detail on major interstates starting on Monday.

From Monday, February 20th, 2023, to Friday, February 24, 2023, Arizona DPS Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Task Force (CVETF) will conduct “Operation Southern Shield.”

Their focus will be on I-10 from Phoenix to the New Mexico state line, and on I-19 from Tucson to the international border.

Inspections, Hazardous Drivers and More

During the operation, the task force will conduct commercial motor vehicle inspections, watch for hazardous driving violations and educate drivers on safe and compliant operation in an effort to reduce crashes involving CMVs. The task force also stated that non-commercial vehicle drivers who operate unsafely around trucks will also be targeted.

Operation Southern Shield will be conducted with assistance from the FMCSA, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the Marana Police Department, the Oro Valley Police Department, and the Tucson Police Department.
