Product Description
Any owner or operator of a vehicle with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more must file Form 2290 for the Heavy Vehicle Use Tax. This includes most commercial trucks and CMVs registered in your name under U.S., Canadian, or Mexican law during the period the vehicle is in operation.
The HVUT tax year runs from July 1 to June 30. For vehicles in use on or before July 1, the IRS filing and payment deadline is August 31. Vehicles placed into service later in the year must be filed by the last day of the month following the month first used.
To complete your HVUT filing, you’ll need:
• Business name and address (sole proprietors may use their legal name)
• Employer Identification Number (EIN)
• Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
