The Wisconsin Intrastate Authority is a certification required by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for all For-Hire motor carriers operating within the state of Wisconsin only.
All intrastate for-hire carriers are required to obtain operating authorization from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. This applies to all commercial vehicles, regardless of their weight.
There are a number of exemptions for the Wisconsin Intrastate Authority including:
• Federal and State owned vehicles
• Soley intrastate Farm truck(s) or dual purpose farm truck(s) if the vehicle combination’s gross combination weight rating, registered weight, and actual gross weight do not exceed 26,000 pounds.
