FMCSA Clearinghouse Registration Assistance

All CDL drivers, employers, and owner-operators regulated by the FMCSA must register in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to remain compliant with federal safety requirements. Registration links your account to your DOT Number and allows employers to conduct required pre-employment and annual queries.

Employers must run a pre-employment query on every new driver and an annual query on all current drivers. They are also required to report positive drug or alcohol test results, refusals to test, and return-to-duty information within the required timeframe.

Owner-operators must register in the Clearinghouse and designate a Consortium/Third-Party Administrator (C/TPA) to manage their reporting. Because they act as both the employer and the driver, they must meet both sets of obligations to stay compliant.

Employers must report specific violations such as verified positive drug tests, alcohol results of 0.04 or higher, refusals to test, and return-to-duty outcomes. These reports keep the FMCSA informed and ensure that only qualified drivers operate commercial vehicles.
