The Georgia Intrastate Motor Carrier Registration (GIMC) Program is a state-administered system that regulates carriers operating exclusively within Georgia. It verifies that commercial motor carriers meet all state safety, insurance, and registration requirements before operating on Georgia roadways.
Any company or individual operating a commercial vehicle within Georgia that transports goods or passengers for compensation must register under the GIMC program. This applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,001 pounds or more, vehicles carrying hazardous materials, or those designed to carry eight or more paying passengers.
Private individuals operating non-commercial vehicles, including farm and agricultural vehicles, are exempt. This also includes anyone transporting personal property or passengers without compensation.
