Product Description
The New Mexico Weight and Distance Permit is required for commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 pounds that operate within the state. This permit ensures carriers pay a state tax based on vehicle weight and miles driven on New Mexico highways. Vehicles registered in New Mexico and traveling intrastate receive a Weight-Distance plate.
Any motor carrier or trucking company operating vehicles over 26,000 pounds through New Mexico must register for this permit. Filing ensures compliance with the state’s Weight-Distance Tax program and helps avoid costly fines.
Permits must be registered annually, with quarterly tax filings submitted according to the following schedule:
• April 30 – for January 1 through March 31
• July 31 – for April 1 through June 30
• October 31 – for July 1 through September 30
• January 31 – for October 1 through December 31
Each permit remains valid through December 31 of the year it is issued.
The permit must be renewed every year by December 31 to maintain compliance and avoid penalties or suspension of your vehicle’s operating privileges in New Mexico.
