Drug Busts Over Weekend In Laredo, TX Border-Crossing
Both methamphetamine and pot were seized in two separate inspections over the weekend, with the combined street value of the drug busts adding up to $6.3 million
Law enforcement in Loredo, TX had an eventful weekend at the World Trade Bridge.
According to KGNS, a local news station in Loredo, US Customs and Border Protection officers conducted two separate drug busts during routine inspections.
Two Drug Seizures On The World Trade Bridge
The first seizure occurred on Friday, December 27th, when a CMP officer stopped a 2022 Freightliner for further inspection. The truck had been hauling a shipment of roof sealant from Mexico over the Texas border. After being tipped off by a canine unit and using special scanning tools, officers found that the sealant buckets had been filled with 29.8 pounds of methamphetamine.
The street value of the recovered meth is claimed to be slightly over $200,000.
The following day, a second major drug seizure occurred.
On Saturday, December 28th, another routine check was conducted on the same bridge. While inspecting a trailer reportedly carrying mechanical appliances, officers made a second discovery. Instead of the supposed shipment, they found 2,700 pounds of marijuana. CBP claims the pot to have a street value of about $6 million.
Officials claim the total value of the weekend drug busts in Loredo to be $6,324,920.
Alberto Flores, the Loredo Port Director, applauded law enforcement’s work, saying, “CBP is proud of the work our frontline officers do to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities.”
CBP has seized the drugs from both cases. Agents from Homeland Security Investigations are currently looking into both cases.
This isn’t the only time Loreto has had such a headline this year. On August 24th and 25th of this year, two other major drug seizures happened at the Laredo Port of Entry. A total of $773,000 worth of narcotics were found during two separate inspections. The drugs included meth, black tar heroin, and cocaine. Both drivers were arrested, and the vehicles and drugs were seized.
