ELDorado ELD Removed From FMCSA List of Approved Devices
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has removed the ELDorado ELD from its list of approved devices, making those who use it non-compliant with federal regulations.
Effective September 7, 2022, the FMCSA removed the ELD from the agency’s list of approved devices “due to the company’s failure to meet the minimum requirements.”
What Does the FMCSA What Me To Do?
The FMCSA advises that ELDorado ELD users should take the following steps:
- Discontinue using the revoked device(s) and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.
- Replace the revoked device(s) with compliant ELD(s) from the Registered Devices list before November 7, 2022.
How Much Time Do I Have To Replace This Device?
You have a 60 day grace period to replace the revoked ELD with an approved ELD.
During the 60 day grace period, law enforcement officers are “encouraged” not to cite drivers using the ELDorado ELD. During the grace period, the FMCSA instead advises that safety officials should request the driver’s paper logs, logging software, or use the ELDorado ELD display as a back-up method to review the hours of service data.
Any motor carriers caught using the ELDorado ELD after November 7, 2022 will be considered to be operating without an ELD and may be placed out of service.
