Electric Truck Charging Stations Recieve $68 Million in Grants
These grants are being given to multiple companies to speed up the implementation of public-use heavy-duty electric truck charging stations.

The Department of Energy has given out $68 million in grants under its SuperTruck Charge initiative.
This money will speed up the development of heavy-duty battery-electric truck charging stations for public use. With more companies looking to go the electric route, this will potentially help make electric trucks more viable freight transportation.
Who Is Receiving Funding?
The SuperTruck Charge initiative focuses on developing truck charging stations near key ports, distribution hubs, and major corridors for the industry. Major recipients of this grant include the developers Greenlane, Voltera, and Terawatt.
Greenlane
The DOE is set to grant $26 million to Greenlane, a Daimler Truck-led consortium based in North America. This money is intended to be used to develop a 10-megawatt charging facility in Barstow, CA.
Supporting the freight on I-15, this site will utilize solar arrays and energy storage to help maintain the facility’s energy needs.
Along with the Barstow location, Greenlane also has sites planned for Colton and Barker, CA.
Voltera and Utah State University
Voltera will build a new infrastructure plan that Utah State University is developing.
The government has given USU $22 million to develop a blueprint for a replicable charging infrastructure that can be reliably implemented nationwide.
Along with the joint USU project, Voltera also has 22 sites of its own, spanning across California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. A spokeswoman for the company has said that they currently have three functional charging facilities operating. In addition to this, they are planning to set up 8 more this year.
They successfully raised $50 million last November to fund expansion plans.
Terawatt Infrastructure
Terawatt will receive $20 million in grants to develop charging stations along the I-10 corridor.
Being based in either Tuscon or Goodyear, AZ, they plan for the station to have 10 pull-in charging stations for heavy-duty electric trucks. They will also utilize solar canopies and 3 battery-electric storage systems
They are also developing 15 new sites throughout the United States. Their first site opened in October of last year in Englewood, CA. A second location will open early this year in Rancho Dominguez, CA.
