FMCSA Removes 8 ELDs from Approved List: What Truckers Need to Do Now
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has officially removed eight electronic logging devices (ELDs) from its list of registered ELDs. These removals took effect on May 12, 2025, and apply to the following devices made by Gorilla Fleet Safety, LLC:
- AllwaysTrack
- Command Alkon Trackit
- ELDX
- Gorilla Safety Compact ELD
- HCSS ELD
- LB Technologies FleetTrack HOS
- Simplex ELD 2GO
- Trucker Path ELD Pro
These devices were revoked because they failed to meet federal standards required under 49 CFR Part 395, Appendix A.
What This Means for Trucking Companies and Drivers
If your fleet is using any of the devices listed above, you must take action immediately. FMCSA is giving carriers a 60-day grace period, which ends July 11, 2025, to switch to a compliant ELD.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Stop using the revoked ELDs right away.
- Temporarily switch to paper logs or compliant logging software to track hours of service (HOS).
- Install and activate a new, FMCSA-registered ELD before the July 11 deadline.
You can find a full list of approved ELDs on the FMCSA’s official ELD website.
Will You Be Penalized During the Grace Period?
Between now and July 11, 2025, FMCSA has asked safety officials not to issue violations for drivers using one of the revoked devices. Instead, inspectors will accept paper logs, logging apps, or ELD screen displays as backup records.
However, after July 11:
- Using one of these devices will be treated the same as having no ELD at all.
- Drivers can be cited for violating 395.8(a)(1) (no record of duty status).
- Drivers may be placed out of service according to CVSA rules.
Will These Devices Ever Be Approved Again?
Maybe. FMCSA has said it will consider putting any of the revoked ELDs back on the approved list if the manufacturer fixes all issues. But until then, carriers should not assume the situation will be resolved.
Bottom Line
If your trucks are running any of these revoked ELDs, don’t wait. Switching to a compliant device now will save you from violations, fines, or downtime in July.
