International Roadcheck Date Announced By the CVSA
The CVSA is preparing to conduct this year’s international road check. Here is what you need to know before it starts.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced that its annual International Roadcheck will occur from May 13 to 15, 2025. This 72-hour inspection event spans North America and focuses on commercial motor vehicles and their drivers to ensure safety and compliance.
International Roadcheck Purpose and Why It Matters
During this period, inspectors will conduct comprehensive assessments of vehicles and drivers. These inspections typically include checks on braking systems, tires, lights, cargo securement, and other critical components. Drivers’ credentials, hours-of-service logs, and overall fitness for duty will also be scrutinized.
Inspectors typically use a 37-step procedure called the North American Standard Level 1 Inspection. On top of this, they will also pay particular attention to the vehicle’s tires as well as the driver’s record of duty status (RODS).
Driver Focus Areas
- Driver’s documents
- License or commercial driver’s license

Preparing For the International Roadcheck
- Conduct Thorough Pre-Trip Inspections: Regularly inspect your vehicle before hitting the road. Pay close attention to brakes, tires, lights, and load securement.
- Review Documentation: Ensure all your licenses, medical certificates, and logs are up-to-date and readily available.
- Stay Informed: Look for announcements regarding the 2025 Roadcheck’s focus areas. Understanding these can guide your preparation efforts.
- Address Maintenance Issues Promptly: Don’t delay repairs. Addressing issues as they arise can prevent violations during inspections.
If a vehicle passes without critical violations, it may receive a CVSA decal. Typically, these vehicles will not be subject to re-investigation. This decal is valid for three months. If any out-of-service violations are found during the inspection, then the vehicle will be unable to operate until these violations have been correctly addressed.
